Priscilla Flete is a Licensed Hairstylist, Lifestyle Blogger, CEO & founder of Shinestruck.

A lifelong learner and hair enthusiast, some of Priscilla’s earliest memories are of her helping around her mother’s salon. As a proud Black Dominican from New York City, she battled with cultural stigmas around “Pelo Malo” (bad hair) and failed to receive proper education and care for her natural hair while growing up. Influenced by cultural expectations that she should frequently straighten her hair to meet Eurocentric beauty standards as a child, Priscilla found her hair damaged by the time she was a young woman after years of relaxers and excessive use of heat.

In 2012, as she began researching ways to repair all the damage done to her hair, she came across an online community of Black women celebrating their natural hair and offering support with styling and healthy hair maintenance. Priscilla soon joined this online community and began sharing her natural hair journey with an emphasis on inspiring others to love and properly care for their natural hair.

Through her 7 years of blogging and empowering women through the sharing of her tips and resources, she realized that there was a lack of experienced hair stylists with knowledge about natural hair. She also noticed that much of the information shared online about natural hair was inconsistent and conflicting and committed to studying and becoming licensed herself.

Priscilla has a special interest and talent in debunking myths about natural hair care and making hair care understandable and accessible to her audience. She is also an avid traveler with an interest in women's health + wellness, Plant-based living, and sustainability.
